Remembering Belsen: Gena Turgel MBE

Gena Turgel was born Gena Goldfinger in 1923 in Krakow, Poland. As a Jew she was interned in Krakow Ghetto before being sent first to the Plaszow Concentration Camp and then the concentration and death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. From here she was forcibly transported to Bergen-Belsen, which was liberated by the British Army on 15th April 1945. In this blog, to mark the 70th anniversary of this event, Gena gives her personal account of the liberation.
