What needs to be included in my Next Steps submission?

Our Next Steps page has guidance and resources for completing and submitting your Next Steps.

We planned to hold an event that has now been cancelled due to COVID-19. Can we still submit our Next Steps?

Yes! In lieu of evidence of your event, we would be happy to receive documentation of your planning and work performed toward your Next Steps.

What other activities can I do for my Next Steps in light of school closures and social distancing?

In addition to your 500 word reflective statement, you are required to undertake a project that reaches a wider audience. Since gathering in large groups of people together is currently not an option, some of the activities you may have thought of before starting the Lessons from Auschwitz Project, such as assemblies, bringing Holocaust survivors into your schools, or running classroom activities will not be possible. Therefore, we would encourage you to think creatively about how you can reach a wider audience through other means.

Some examples include:

    • Write a blog (see template below)
    • Produce a vlog (see template below)
    • Writing articles for school newsletters or local papers (see template below)
    • Setting up a social media campaign
    • Encourage others to share a series of posts
    • Build a following on a new Instagram feed dedicated to your Next Steps
    • Sharing your Next Steps with everyone in your WhatsApp contacts and creating a new group to specifically discuss your experience of the Lessons from Auschwitz Project and the contemporary relevance of the Holocaust
    • Create a piece of art or music
    • Your own idea! There are no restrictions here, so feel free to be creative and try your own idea.

Template for Blog, Vlog, Article or Newsletter:

Introduction: Introduce the Lessons from Auschwitz Project, how or why you went on behalf of your school and how the project was set up (Orientation Seminar, Visit, Follow-up and Next Steps).

Testimony: Include details about the survivor testimony you heard at the Orientation Seminar and your learning about the Holocaust. What did you hear from the survivor that stood out? Why was it important or special to hear their testimony? How has your understanding changed or developed?

The Visit: Explain your visit, the different parts of it, what you learnt and why it is relevant. Cover the parts of the day that stood out to you, or the messages that you felt were important to pass on.

Contemporary relevance: Explain why it is important that we remember, commemorate and recognise the Holocaust in today’s world. What is the message you wish to get across having visited Auschwitz-Birkenau?

Consider including pictures from your visit, consider using testimony/readings from the visit (which you can find on our website).

What planning should I submit if I haven't been able to hold an event?

As all Next Steps are unique, the work you’ve done will come in many forms. To help our moderators understand what you’ve done, please submit:

    • The original files you have worked on for your Next Steps – e.g. PowerPoint slides, Word documents, video and audio files, etc. Please do not send files via SharePoint, Google Drive, iCloud, or other cloud services.
    • A short document describing what you’ve submitted and how you planned to showcase it.
    • Correspondence between you and school/venue staff showing your planning for the event or publication.
    • Your 500-word personal reflective statement.
    • A submission form.

Where can I find a submission form?

You can download a submission form from our website.

My files are too big to send via email; how can I submit them?
