Ambassadors, join us in marking Holocaust Memorial Day 2021

Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) takes place every year on 27th January and marks the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration and death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.

On and around this day, Ambassadors from right across the UK will come together virtually, with their schools, universities and workplaces to remember the six million Jewish men, women and children murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators. There are already hundreds of Ambassadors planning virtual events across the UK and the Holocaust Educational Trust is here to support you to do something in your own community.

The theme for this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day is ‘Be the Light in the Darkness’, which asks us to reflect upon this dark chapter of our shared history as well as consider the tiny fragments of light that can be seen in the actions of the small minority of individuals who risked their lives to save others. The theme invites us, as ambassadors, to consider our own role in society today, as Ambassadors, ensuring the Holocaust is never forgotten and continuing to be the light in the darkness, working to ensure that prejudice and hatred never again go unchallenged.

Special Event for University Students

Tuesday 26th January 2021, 5:30pm

The Holocaust Educational Trust, in partnership with the Union of Jewish Students (UJS), would like to invite university students, staff, senior leaders and societies to join us for a special online event to mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2021. Hearing one survivor’s personal experience during the Holocaust helps us to put a human face to history. This is an incredible opportunity for students and staff at universities across the UK to join together to hear the testimony of Holocaust survivor John Dobai.

We encourage you to invite your friends, societies, students' unions and universities to take advantage of this opportunity. Please register here.

Live Survivor Webcast

Tuesday 26th January 2021, 10:00am

On Tuesday 26th January at 10am we are hosting our annual live survivor webcast. This is an incredible opportunity for school students across the UK to come together to listen to a survivor sharing their testimony. Students will be able to ask the survivor questions about their experiences during the Holocaust as part of the live event. Although this event is aimed at students, anyone can take part.
