HMD 2022 - Ambassador Events

Ambassadors, join us in marking Holocaust Memorial Day 2022

What is Holocaust Memorial Day?

Holocaust Memorial Day takes place every year on 27th January and marks the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration and death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.

On and around this day, Ambassadors from right across the UK will be working hard on initiatives running virtually and in person, with their schools, universities and workplaces, to remember the six million Jewish men, women and children murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators. There are already hundreds of Ambassadors planning events across the UK, and the Holocaust Educational Trust is here to support you to do something in your own community.

What is the theme?

The theme for this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day is One Day. You can read guidance on the theme and how you may wish to interpret it here. As a community, we are encouraging Ambassadors to come together for Holocaust Memorial Day 2022 and reflect on this theme within the context of remembering one victim, one survivor or one story.

Universities: Hear from Holocaust survivor Marcel Ladenheim BEM — Monday 24th January, 6pm

The Holocaust Educational Trust would like to invite university students, staff, senior leaders, and societies to join us in hearing the testimony of Holocaust survivor, Marcel Ladenheim BEM. Hearing from a survivor puts a human face to history, enabling us to explore the lessons of the Holocaust in more depth. This is an incredible opportunity for students and staff at universities across the UK to join together and to hear testimony to mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2022.

You can register individually, with your friends, societies, students’ unions or as a department – don’t miss this incredible opportunity. To join us, please register here.

Live Survivor Webcast for Secondary Schools – Wednesday 26th January, 10am

If you’re currently at school or college, encourage your teachers to sign up so that you and your peers can join us at our annual live webcast where Holocaust survivor Eva Clarke BEM will share her story of survival.
