What does Lessons from Auschwitz Online comprise of?

Lessons from Auschwitz Online is a new learning experience, comprised of three online Live Sessions and five self-guided learning modules hosted on a new, bespoke online learning platform. For the final stage of the course students will be expected to undertake a Next Steps project to pass their learning on to their school and community.

Who is Lessons from Auschwitz Online open to?

The project is open to either two, three or four students aged 16-18 years, and in post-16 education, per school/college. Students can be studying any subject and can be from any ethnic, religious, social, economic or cultural background.

Lessons from Auschwitz Online is open to students from state schools and colleges in England and students in post-16 education from any school or college in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

How much does it cost?

Lessons from Auschwitz Online is offered free-of-charge to all participants.

How can I ensure my students can participate – what technology will they need?

Students will need access to a computer, smartphone or tablet in order to access the learning platform and Live Sessions. As most students will complete their independent, online learning outside of school hours, students must have access to these devices outside of school time.

Is attendance at the Live Sessions compulsory?

Yes, students will need to attend each of the Live Sessions. Failure to attend a Live Session may result in a student being withdrawn from the project.

How long will my students need to spend on completing the independent-learning modules?

While each student will work at their own pace, the modules shouldn’t take longer than 3-5 hours over the span of the project.

What do my students need to do before the first Live Session?

Students need to complete their online registration ahead of the start of the project. They will also need to complete an Introductory Module on the learning platform before attending the first Live Session.

How can my students access the virtual reality and Live Session elements of the project?

The virtual reality elements of the project will be a guided experience delivered during Live Session 2. We will send your students a cardboard virtual reality headset compatible with most smartphones as part of their pre-course pack. If your students do not have access to a smartphone, they will still be able to view the content on any laptop, desktop computer or tablet

If your students will be accessing the Live Sessions from school, it is vital that your IT department unblocks both Zoom and signin.lfaproject.org.uk on your local network.

What is expected from my students?

Attendance at the Live Sessions is mandatory, and all participants must complete the self-guided learning modules in order to complete the course. Students will also be required to complete a Next Steps project, helping them to disseminate what they have learned on the course.

What is expected from me as a teacher?

As a coordinating teacher, you will be responsible for ensuring your students have completed their registration and are able to join the Live Sessions. You will also need to upload a signed consent form before your students may join the course. Coordinating teachers also support students as they plan and deliver their Next Steps.

Teacher places on the project are only available to schools where a student needs extra educational support in order to participate.

My students have Special Educational Needs; how can they participate?

We have worked hard to ensure the platform is as accessible as possible, ensuring it meets the relevant WCAG 2.1 level AA accessibility standards. All videos include written transcripts, and subtitles are available for the Live Sessions.
