Karen Pollock MBE welcomes Holocaust survivors honoured in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List

Walter Kammerling, Ernest Simon, Gabriele Keenaghan, Ruzena Levy, George Vulkan and Bob and Ann Kirk have all received BEMs (British Empire Medals) for services to Holocaust Education in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

Commenting on the honours, Chief Executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust, Karen Pollock MBE said:

“Huge congratulations from all of us to Walter, Gabriele, Ruzena, Ernest, George, Bob and Ann!

“Holocaust survivors are at the heart of what we do, and we know their testimonies have a far-reaching impact. Their determination to relive the most difficult period of their lives in order for future generations to know where hate can ultimately lead is an inspiration to us all. It is my view that all survivors who have not yet been recognised for their efforts should be, while we still can.

“Against a backdrop of rising antisemitism, Holocaust denial and hate, we pledge to increase our efforts to ensure that this period of history is taught about and known. We wish each of these wonderful individuals a hearty mazel tov for an Honour well deserved.”
