The Holocaust Educational Trust has written to Westminster City Council's Planning Committee in support of the planning application for a National Holocaust Memorial and Learning Centre to be built next to the Houses of Parliament.
The Trust wholly supports the plan for a national Holocaust Memorial and Learning Centre to be built on this site and you can find out more about these plans on the UK Holocaust Memorial Foundation website here.
Westminster Council are seeking feedback on this application and there's still time for you to show your support - you can submit your comments via the online planning portal here.
Speaking in support, Chief Executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust, Karen Pollock MBE, commented: “We are proud to support the national Holocaust memorial and learning centre, positioned right next to Parliament, at the heart of our democracy. Alongside excellent Holocaust education initiatives already being delivered across the country, this memorial will enable a much wider audience to learn about the past, Britain’s relationship with the Holocaust and its contemporary relevance today.
“As survivors become fewer and frailer, and the Holocaust moves further into history, our duty to educate and raise awareness of the Holocaust becomes increasingly important, and this memorial will do just that, sending a clear signal for generations to come of the important place the Holocaust has in our nation’s history and memory.”
