The Holocaust Educational Trust is pleased to invite teachers to register for our Virtual Teacher Study Visit to Israel, which will take place on Zoom in October 2021.

Sunday 24 October and Monday 25 October 2021

Programme overview

Whilst uncertainty continues around the possibility of international travel, we are delighted to announce that we will continue to host our intensive online CPD courses during the 2021-22 academic year.

In October 2021 we will be offering a unique virtual course exploring one of the most complex aspects of the history of the Holocaust: its relationship with the Jewish community in what was British-ruled Palestine and what became Israel. During this course, we will address key questions raised by this theme, including:

  • What was the history of the Jewish community, the Yishuv, prior to the establishment of the State of Israel?
  • How did British policy in what was then Mandatory Palestine respond to the Nazi persecution and murder of the Jews of Europe?
  • What was the impact of the legacy of the Holocaust on Israeli society?
  • How has the Holocaust been remembered in Israel?

Online sessions will be academically rigorous and interactive, incorporating testimonies, images, primary source documents, poetry, artworks and other stimuli to encourage discussion and critical evaluation of this challenging history and its implications for the classroom. Virtual sessions will take place on Zoom and will combine formal presentations with smaller group discussions and debates of key issues.
