The Learning Hub is the sister project of our flagship programme Lessons from Auschwitz. This online project offers post-16 students the opportunity to explore an online learning resource independently and at their own pace. The Learning Hub consists of progressive modules which introduce the history of the Holocaust and address some of the key historical issues that are often misunderstood by students in Holocaust education. The co-ordinating teacher will be provided with our “Common Myths and Misconceptions” guide which includes advice on how to support students.

After completing the programme, every student will be given the opportunity to join a multi-outreach event where they will join other participants from around the country to hear from a Holocaust survivor.

Students will also be offered the chance to attend a VR session, where they will use VR technology to look at some of the places in Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum. This online event will take place later this spring.

You will receive more information on these events and how to join after registration and prior to the dates above.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can take part in the project?

You can register as many post-16 students from your school as you wish to take part. We recommend registering at least a class of students so they can share their learnings and experience. We also strongly recommend that students embarking on this self-guided learning journey will have some basic prior knowledge about the Holocaust.

How do I apply to take part?

Complete the application form here. You will then receive an email with a unique reference number and a link for your students to register for the project. This is so we can provide each student with their own unique login details to access the Learning Hub. Please forward this email on to participating students so they can complete their individual registration.

How does the Learning Hub project differ to the Lessons from Auschwitz Project?

The two projects are both delivered by the Lessons from Auschwitz (LFA) team, but please note they are two separate projects. Please see here to read more about LFA. The Learning Hub is an online project which gives Key Stage 5 students the opportunity to explore an introductory resource to the Holocaust by working through the online modules independently. They will also have the opportunity to join a multi-outreach event, where they will join other participants from around the country and hear from a Holocaust survivor.

Does my school need to take part in both the Learning Hub and the Lessons from Auschwitz project?

No. The two projects are independent of each other. If you are taking part in Lessons from Auschwitz, you may wish to sign up to the Learning Hub to enable more of your students to access some of the material we teach on Lessons from Auschwitz and further their understanding of the Holocaust.

Why should my students take part and what will they learn through the project?

As your students explore the Learning Hub, they will be introduced to the history of the Holocaust and get a taster of some of the material we teach on the Lessons from Auschwitz Project. This platform is a useful step forward in their Holocaust Education and will give participants the tools and insight to develop their learning.

How long do students have to complete the Learning Hub project?

Participants will be given a window of 3-4 weeks to use the platform, and a final deadline will be set for the completion of the programme. This is to ensure that students have completed the online learning prior to the multi-outreach events, where they will join other participants from around the country and hear from a Holocaust survivor.

When will the Outreach and VR sessions take place and how can I find out more?

By sigining up to the Learning Hub, you will automatically be given the opportunity to take part in an online Outreach session to hear from a Holocaust survivor. More details on how to join will be sent via email. You will also receive more information via email on how to join a VR session, where students will use VR technology to look at some of the places in Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum. This will take place later this spring.

How long does it take for participants complete the independent learning modules?

The pace of completion will be student dependent, but participants should allow around 2-3 hours to finish the programme. Each module should take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Participants will need to complete the modules in sequential order but they do not have to complete the programme in a continuous sitting. They will be permitted to return to the platform as and when they need.

What support will myself (co-ordinating teacher) and my students receive?

Participants can get in touch with the Lessons from Auschwitz team through the platform. It is important that students flag any concerns about their emotional wellbeing and we encourage the co-oridnating teacher to support their students. There is more advice on how they/you can do this in the teacher guide, which will be provided after registration is confirmed.

Will students be assessed?

There are learning reviews in the form of short, multiple-choice assessments at the end of each module to consolidate participants’ understanding. Students will not be formally assessed, and will receive an e-certificate on completion of the project.
