Teacher Study Visit to Lithuania – Applications now being accepted
Course dates: 4th-7th April 2013

The Holocaust Educational Trust is pleased to invite applications for our next Teacher Study Visit, an advanced site-based Continuing Professional Development (CPD) course. Our 2013 course will be held in Lithuania.
The programme
The Teacher Study Visit to Lithuania is an advanced training programme that focuses on the richness and complexity of the history of the Holocaust. The visit is based around a series of key Holocaust related sites in and around the cities of Vilnius and Kaunas. These on-site sessions will be academically rigorous and interactive, incorporating testimonies, images, primary source documents, poetry and other stimuli that challenge you to discuss and critically evaluate issues within Holocaust education and when using authentic Holocaust related sites.
The course will take place over four days and four nights in Lithuania. Educational sessions will be delivered by members of the Holocaust Educational Trust education team and by Jeremy Leigh, author of Holocaust Sites in Germany, Poland & Austria.
Who can apply?
The Teacher Study Visit is a course for practising secondary school teachers who currently deliver Holocaust Education in schools. We especially welcome applications from teachers who have previously taken part in Holocaust Educational Trust CPD courses or the Lessons from Auschwitz Project, or who have taken part in the Imperial War Museum Fellowship or CPD seminars organised by the IOE Centre for Holocaust Education.
Please only apply for the course if you are available to attend the entirety of it – beginning at 9.00am in Vilnius on Thursday 4th April 2013and concluding at 1.00pm on Sunday 7th April 2013. Holocaust Educational Trust staff will be travelling to Vilnius on Wednesday 3rd April 2013. We will provide the details of this flight to successful applicants who wish to travel on the same flight. Otherwise, participants will be expected to make their own way to the designated meeting place in Vilnius.
How much does it cost?
All Lithuania-based costs are covered by the Holocaust Educational Trust including shared hotel accommodation, meals, transportation and museum entrance fees. Participants are required to pay for their own flights to Vilnius (approximately £150). Previous participants on the Teacher Study Visits have often found funding for these costs via their school, local education authority or local Rotary Clubs.
