The Holocaust Educational Trust is pleased to invite applications for our Teacher Study Visit to Lithuania, which will take place in May 2019.

Monday 27 – Friday 31 May 2019

Application deadline: Tuesday 5 March 2019

Programme overview

Our Teacher Study Visits are advanced site-based training courses which focus on the richness and diversity of pre-war Jewish life and on the complexity of the history of the Holocaust. This visit explores some of the most challenging issues raised by the Holocaust. Lithuania, home to one of Europe’s most significant pre-war Jewish communities, was the country in which the Nazi policy of complete extermination was carried out first and most comprehensively. The course will use key Holocaust-related sites in and around the cities of Vilnius and Kaunas to address themes such as pre-war Jewish life, the role of local people in the Holocaust, and Jewish resistance. On-site sessions, delivered by the Trust’s expert team, will be academically rigorous and interactive, incorporating a wide range of stimuli to discuss and critically evaluate the complex history of the Holocaust.

Feedback from previous Teacher Study Visits:

So many ideas I want to take to the classroom now I feel much more informed and confident about purpose.

Home after a brilliant 4 days of CPD with HET. So much to reflect upon and add to my teaching.

It has given me a sense of purpose. The investment HET has made in me has succeeded in adapting my teaching and the teaching of others in my school for the better.

Who should apply?

Applications are invited from teachers of any subject area who are currently in post. Participants are required to be available for the entirety of the course.

How much does it cost?

The course is free to attend. The Trust will provide meals and accommodation for the duration of the course. Participants are asked to cover the costs of their own travel to central Vilnius, though the Trust can write a letter to their headteacher, requesting that these be covered by their school’s CPD budget.
