Supporting teachers in 2021

We know new lockdown restrictions pose huge challenges for teachers, parents and students alike. The Holocaust Educational Trust will provide the support and resources you need to ensure teaching and learning about the Holocaust can continue. Here’s what we have to offer:

Home Learning Resources

Danish Jews iconOur Family Learning Pack for 10- to 11-year-olds and their families enables children and families to explore age-appropriate aspects of the Holocaust era. Primary teachers can download this resource to send out to their pupils’ homes or parents can access the resource directly.

Our Exploring the Holocaust: Home Learning Pack for Key Stage 3/S2 students comprises seven activities for teachers to send to students who are studying at home. All activities include notes to parents outlining how they can support their children as they work through the activities at home. The resources are based on Exploring the Holocaust, our free, comprehensive and flexible cross-curricular scheme of work built around 15 core lessons in History, Religious Education, Philosophy, Citizenship or PSHE.

We continue to run Film and Book Clubs exploring the way the Holocaust is depicted in popular culture. You can find out more about our next Book Club here and watch our recent Film Clubs on Facebook here or on YouTube here.

We also still offer live testimony sessions with our survivor speakers, remote sessions for students with our trained educators and support for our young Ambassadors.

Holocaust Memorial Day

Outreach collage smallWe can also support you and your students in commemorating Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) on January 27. This year's HMD theme is Be the Light in the Darkness. Head to our HMD 2021 page for useful readings and online teaching resources which explore stories of resistance and rescue – from Jewish photographer, Mendel Grossman, who secretly photographed life in the Lodz ghetto, to the Albanian Muslims who sheltered Jewish refugees.

Our Holocaust Memorial Day webcast is on the 26 January. Sign up and join us for live survivor testimony and an interactive Q&A. Details of our speaker will be announced very soon!

Online Teacher Training

TTWe offer free online teacher training sessions throughout the year. Join us as we model our online teaching resources and discuss approaches to teaching about aspects of the Holocaust in the primary and secondary school. See here for details of upcoming seminars and workshops.

Register now for our Exploring the Holocaust: CPD course taking place Saturday 13 February – Tuesday 16 February 2021.
